Elijah’s primary style of music is jazz, as he brings a youthful revival to jazz standards from the 1920s through the 1960s. The multilingual singer of Jazz, Cabaret, Musical Theatre, and Latin music is a rising star in the New Orleans scene—a vocalist, arranger, lyricist, and captivating performer who seamlessly blends his New York–Puerto Rican roots with the rich influences of New Orleans and Paris. This deep understanding of many genres allows him to craft a unique sound all his own, making every performance truly unforgettable.
Known for his personal saying, “Old souls recognize old souls,” Elijah draws inspiration from legends such as Judy Garland, Tony Bennett, Donna Summer, and Celia Cruz. Over the years, he has studied with local and world-class artists including: Cyrille Aimée, Wessell “Warmdaddy” Anderson, Amina Scott, Banu Gibson, Meryl Zimmerman, Leah Chase, and many more. Each has praised Elijah for his vast vocal range, scat singing, diverse repertoire, inventive arrangements, lyrical interpretations, and his powerful voice—a cross between a Broadway belter and a velvety jazz singer.
Elijah has appeared numerous times with the Loyola University New Orleans Jazz Band at Jazz Fest, and has performed with his combo, Elijah Hartman and His Swingin’ Friends, at venues across New Orleans such as Buffa’s and the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park and Museum. He has also accompanied Wessell “Warmdaddy” Anderson as one of his featured singers, with the two sharing the stage at the historic Pontchartrain Hotel’s Bayou Bar, where many New Orleans greats have played.
Internationally, Elijah has graced stages at the Jazz Ascona Festival in Switzerland, the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity in France, the iconic Sunset–Sunside Jazz Club in Paris, and the Keystone Club in Tokyo.
